Supporting Healthy, Active Living in White Rock

White Rock needs more than feel-good promises and consultant-driven wish lists. We need a real plan grounded in community priorities, financial reality, and transparent leadership.
As a candidate for City Council, I am committed to restoring public trust in how recreation decisions are made and ensuring that every dollar spent delivers lasting value for residents. That’s why I am calling for the immediate reinstatement of the Finance, Audit & Budget Committee to review city spending, a vital mechanism for public oversight that was disbanded without explanation.
Recreation decisions, like spending tens of thousands of dollars on yet another consultant study about an outdoor pool without land or funding, demand accountability. Where was this idea in the Council Priorities Plan, the city’s roadmap of top projects?
My 'Vision 2032 – Building Pathways Together' initiative lays the groundwork for the kind of city we want to become by our 75th anniversary. It starts with listening to residents and empowering community-led planning across the entire Semiahmoo Peninsula.
In the area of better recreation facilities, here are examples of what I stand for:
✅ Fixing What’s Broken: Finish the job of restoring the White Rock Pier, not just because it’s iconic, but because it’s a shared legacy we must protect. Follow up on the Marine Drive Task Force recommendations of 2019/2020, which I co-chaired.
✅ Turning Mistakes into Momentum: Revisit the "Pathway to Nowhere", a costly walkway that goes unused, as a case study in poor planning, and commit to doing better. How is building a Multi-Use Pathway from the high street water tower to North Bluff Road, cutting through the main pedestrian walkway of Generations Playground and ending at Oxford Street, going to help create effective pathways in our community?
✅ Planning for the Future: Prioritize the North Bluff Corridor, the city’s main east–west route, and the East–West Pathway, a walkable, accessible route connecting the city and setting the foundation for future growth. I submitted a plan to upgrade the existing undefined pathway from Centennial Park to the Community Centre on Russel Street. Why don’t we study that pathway and make our uptown community more walkable?
These aren’t just proposals — they’re part of my larger Vision 2032 initiative, a commitment to recreation that builds community, ensures financial stewardship, and brings all voices to the table.
This morning, I was proud to share these ideas at the Healthy Active Living Peninsula (HALP) All-Candidates Forum. Here’s a summary of the positions I presented:
Position Statement – September 7, 2025
Peace Arch Curling Club – Ice Plant & Facility Investment
Strong support for investing in this 60-year-old community-led facility.
Over 500 members and key events like the Rotary Book Sale make it a vital hub.
Enables aging-in-place and year-round use.
City should explore broader upgrades alongside ice plant replacement.
Indoor Space for Pickleball – Covered Lacrosse Box
Support grassroots-led proposal to cover the underused lacrosse box.
Over 600 WRPA members plus many casual players need more space.
Shared seasonal use with lacrosse makes it an efficient solution.
A low-cost, high-impact idea worthy of city support.
Outdoor Swimming Pool Proposal
I do not support moving forward with the $12–20 million pool proposal.
The $50K feasibility study is premature without a site or funding plan, and ongoing $500K–1M operating cost is too burdensome for White Rock taxpayers.
Priority: restore our iconic Pier before launching expensive new projects.
Core Values
Community-led planning, not consultant-driven.
Fiscal transparency and public accountability.
Respect and support for White Rock’s volunteer spirit.
Invest in what works before spending on speculative new ideas.
Vote in the White Rock by-election on Saturday, September 27, and join me in building a community-focused, fiscally responsible city council. To help support this campaign and our Vision 2032 initiatives, please consider making a contribution here.
